  • Own bench jeweler
  • GIA & IGI certified stones
  • Free replacement estimate

You do not have to accept whatever the insurance company sends you

Losing a ring you have worn every day for ten years is not the same as losing a phone. Most people making a jewelry claim have never done it before, and the process is deliberately opaque.

Here is the part carriers rarely lead with: on most homeowners, renters and specialty jewelry policies you get to choose the jeweler. You are not obliged to take a mass-produced substitute from a fulfilment warehouse.

Monica Jewelers works directly with adjusters on approved claims. We document exactly what you had, source or recreate it properly, and hand it to you in one of our two stores — with a fresh appraisal so the replacement is insured correctly from day one.

How the process works

Most people have never made a jewelry claim before. Here is exactly what happens.

  1. Tell us what happenedSend the details through the form below — or call us. A claim number helps but is not required. We can start from a photograph and an old appraisal.
  2. We build your replacement estimateWe identify the exact specification of what you lost: metal, carat weight, cut, colour, clarity, setting, brand and model. You get an itemised, like-kind-and-quality estimate your adjuster can work from.
  3. Your insurer reviews itSend the estimate to your adjuster, or ask them to contact us directly. Most carriers let you pick your own jeweler — if yours needs us to speak with them, we will.
  4. We source or recreate the pieceOnce approved we source the diamond, gemstone or watch, or recreate the piece from scratch using CAD and our in-house bench. You approve the design before anything is made.
  5. You collect it in storePick it up at Katy Mills or The Mall in Columbia, with a fresh written appraisal for your records so the new piece is properly insured from day one.

What we can do for you

Everything below is handled by Monica Jewelers, with our own jeweler on the bench.

Engagement ring replacement

Lost, stolen or damaged engagement rings rebuilt to the original specification — or upgraded if your policy allows.

Natural & lab-grown diamond sourcing

We source to an exact spec: carat, cut, colour, clarity, certification. GIA and IGI reports available.

Fine jewelry replacement

Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings matched to what you had, from our own inventory or sourced to order.

Custom recreation & CAD

No longer made? We rebuild it from photographs and appraisal details using CAD, and show you a 3D render before we cut metal.

Jewelry repair & restoration

Damaged rather than lost — retipping, reshanking, stone replacement, restringing and full restoration.

Stone setting

Prong, bezel, channel, pavé and micro-pavé setting by our in-house jeweler.

Luxury watch sourcing

Replacement of luxury and designer timepieces, matched by reference number.

Rolex & high-end watch sourcing

We source Rolex and other sought-after references through our trade network.

Detailed replacement estimates

Itemised, like-kind-and-quality documentation formatted for adjusters.

Appraisals & documentation

Written appraisals for your new piece so it is correctly insured going forward.

In-house jeweler

The work is done by our own bench jeweler — your piece is not shipped to an anonymous third party.

Working with your insurer

We work with customers insured through homeowners, renters and specialty jewelry policies — Jewelers Mutual, Chubb, State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Lavalier, BriteCo and others. Most policies let you choose the jeweler who does the work.

We provide the documentation adjusters ask for: itemized replacement estimates, like-kind-and-quality specifications, GIA or IGI grading reports where applicable, and a written appraisal on completion. If your adjuster needs something in a particular format, tell us and we will produce it.

Have a Jewelers Mutual claim? Ask to use Monica Jewelers as your preferred jeweler for your approved repair or replacement.

Jewelers Mutual policyholders may generally choose their own jeweler, and the insurer works directly with the jeweler you select on approved repairs and replacements. The same is usually true of homeowners and renters policies — you are rarely required to use whoever the carrier suggests first.

Monica Jewelers is an independent jewelry retailer. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by, or an authorized or preferred partner of Jewelers Mutual or any other insurance carrier. All company and product names are the trademarks of their respective owners. We work with customers insured through homeowners, renters and specialty jewelry policies from any carrier.

Why customers choose Monica Jewelers

Two real stores

Katy Mills in Texas and The Mall in Columbia, Maryland. You can walk in, hand us the paperwork and look someone in the eye.

Our own bench jeweler

Repairs, settings and recreations happen in house. Nothing disappears into a mail-in queue.

We speak adjuster

Itemised, like-kind-and-quality estimates in the format carriers expect — which is usually what decides how fast a claim moves.

Certified stones

Natural and lab-grown diamonds with GIA or IGI reports, so the replacement is documented as well as the original.

No obligation

Get the estimate, take it to your insurer, decide afterwards. There is no cost to find out what your replacement should look like.

Family-run

Not a call centre. The person who prices your claim is the person who hands you the finished piece.

Start Your Insurance Replacement

Send us what you have. A claim number helps but is not required — we can start from a photograph and an appraisal.

Questions people ask us

Do I have to use the jeweler my insurance company suggests?

Usually not. Most homeowners, renters and specialty jewelry policies let you choose your own jeweler for an approved repair or replacement. If you would like to use us, tell your adjuster you have selected Monica Jewelers and we will work with them directly.

What if I do not have a claim number yet?

That is fine. Many customers come to us before filing, because they need a replacement estimate to open the claim in the first place. We can prepare that for you.

What if I never had an appraisal?

We can often reconstruct the specification from photographs, an original receipt, or even a jeweler's description. Bring whatever you have — a clear photo of the piece on a hand is more useful than people expect.

How long does a replacement take?

A straightforward repair can be days. Sourcing a specific diamond or watch reference typically takes one to three weeks. A full custom recreation with CAD usually runs three to six weeks from approval.

Can I upgrade instead of replacing like for like?

Often yes. Many policies pay out a set replacement value, and you can put that toward something different and pay the difference. Tell us what you would rather have and we will price both options.

Does it cost anything to get an estimate?

No. The replacement estimate is free and there is no obligation to have the work done with us.

My piece was damaged, not lost. Can you still help?

Yes. Damage claims are a large part of what we do — bent shanks, lost stones, worn prongs, broken clasps and crash damage to watches. We will document the damage for your insurer and quote the restoration.
